Topchoice: one application, a year of control

We spread it across the whole lawn and water it in. Active mounds start dropping off within two to three weeks, and colonies that move in later are controlled too. If fire ants come back within the year, the manufacturer’s guarantee covers a retreatment.

Know the ant

  • Red imported fire ants are small, 2.4 to 6 mm, reddish-brown with a darker rear.
  • One grips with its jaws and stings again and again, so stings come in clusters.
  • A white blister forms within about a day. For people who are allergic, stings can be an emergency.
  • The mound has no entrance hole. They come and go through tunnels underground.

How much does fire ant control cost?
Spot treatments cost nothing extra: they come with Lawn Care and Tree & Shrub. Topchoice is a one-time application, about $180–400 depending on the size of your property. Your quote gives the exact price.
What is the difference between spot treatments and Topchoice?
Spot treatments go on the mounds we find, at every visit and on free service calls in between. Topchoice goes over the whole lawn once, so it also reaches colonies that have not built a mound yet, and it keeps working for up to a year.
How long does Topchoice take to work?
Active mounds start dropping off within two to three weeks. After that it keeps controlling fire ants, including new colonies that move in, for up to a year.
What does the Topchoice guarantee cover?
Topchoice carries the manufacturer’s guarantee of up to one year of fire ant control. If fire ants come back within that year, the guarantee covers a retreatment of your property.
Can I buy Topchoice and put it down myself?
No. It is a restricted-use product, sold to and applied by certified applicators only, and it can go down just once a year.
Can I add Topchoice to my lawn care?
Yes. We can put it down at one of your regular visits, or come out just for it.
Do I need to be home?
No. We treat the yard and leave a door hanger with what we applied and any instructions.
When can people and pets go back on the lawn?
Each product’s label sets how long people and pets should stay off a treated area, and we follow it. Your technician will tell you what that means for your treatment.
